hardwood floors cost

Hardwood floors add a very timeless look to your home and they also add great value to your home. Therefore it is very important that you properly take care of your wood flooring so that they will last a lifetime. Many engineered hardwood floors have a warranty of 25-50 years, however if they are maintained properly, they can last your lifetime.

So how do you take care of them properly? The most important aspect to consider when cleaning your floors is to take into account what the manufacturer’s warranty considers the proper way to clean them. If you do not follow the warranty specifications, if the hardwood floors are damaged by using cleaning methods not suggested by the manufacturer, they will not warranty the floors. So it is vital that you either contact the manufacturer or visit their website. If you can not reach them, then contact the retailer that you purchased your hardwoods from, they should be able to provide that information.

A couple do’s and don’ts that are pretty much universal amongst all hardwood manufacturers include:

1. Do not use a wet mop. Excess water used during cleaning can and most likely will warp your hardwood floors.

2. Use Bona hardwood floor cleaner to clean your floors. It is a widely approved cleaning product within the flooring industry.

3. Do not use products such as Murphy Oil soap, it can warp the plank and create a haze on the finish.

But to reiterate, it is best to consult with the manufacturer to get their warranty specifics.
