hardwood flooring arlington
When client’s purchase new engineered hardwood flooring at one of The Floor Barn retail showrooms, one of the first questions we get asked is how do we care for or clean them? In order to make your newly purchased hardwoods last at least for the warranty term if not a lifetime, it is important to take the proper steps in maintaining them.

Here are some very good general tips typically apply to most all wood floors, but ultimately it is important that you check the manufacturer’s warranty for their approved care steps for your hardwood flooring.

1. Do not use a wet mop or steamer products like the Shark, this will void your warranty for almost every hardwood manufacturer. Use a damp mop or cloth and pretty much every manufacturer approves the use of Bona floor cleaner.

2. Make sure you sweep prior to mopping them so that you decrease the chances of scratching it by removing debris such as small rocks.

3. Place felt pads under all furniture, especially items that get moved regularly such as chairs and tables. This will help protect your hardwood flooring from scratches.

4. Place a door mat by each door where there is traffic that comes in and out of the home. This will help collect dirt and help prevent scratches.

5. If you have pets, keep their nails trimmed.

6. Consider rugs in areas with high concentration of direct sunlight or use drapes on the windows.

7.   Do not place electronics directly on your new hardwood flooring. The heat from them can damage the finish on your floors.
