However, if you are the DIY type of individual and prefer to try the installation of the laminate flooring yourself, here are some tips to hopefully make your install a smooth one.
* Floor Acclimation – Most manufacturers require a 48-72 hour period where the laminate is stored in your home so that it acclimates to the temperature of your home and limits the possibility of expansion or contraction after the installation.
* Sub Floor Preparation – Whether your subfloor is plywood or concrete, you will want to make sure that it is free of debris and leveled to make sure there are no rises or dips prior to the install.
* Underlayment – Selecting your underlayment is just as important as selecting the right laminate floor. You will not want to select the thin plastic options if you want to have a hollow sound as you walk on your floor and will not protect well against possible moisture problems coming up through your subfloor. As a laminate floor installer, we always use a 3 in 1 underlayment that provides good support to your floors, acoustic protection and moisture protection.
* All of our products we sell in our store are click and lock method. It does not require glue or nails like installing wood. So if you are the handy type of person, you might want to tackle the installation yourself. There are a lot of good how to videos out there to give your direction.
