Visiting a retail flooring store can be intimidating for some individuals. Many people do not know what to expect when going to floor stores, some are afraid of pushy a pushy sales person, some are overwhelmed with the different floor choices in a retail flooring store. This post is to try to help guide you in your shopping experience so that you are comfortable and feel confident in your selection of floors.
One tip I often give to homeowners if they call before visiting our retail flooring store, is for them to take pictures of the rooms their new floors will be installed in. Bring in paint swatch if you plan on painting your walls. Bring in a decorative pillow or piece of cloth that might be your inspiration for the decor in your rooms. Having this stuff on hand while shopping will help you narrow down your selection so that you know the color of your floors will complement the rest of your decor in your home.
Once you have narrowed down your selections during your visit to your local retail flooring store, ask your sales person to allow you to take the floor samples back with you to you home. It is important to see how the floor looks in the lighting of your home. Light is a very important aspect of how a floor looks in a home. Your home might have a lot of natural light and the retail flooring store might have a lot of artificial fluorescent lighting where the floor is going to look slightly different in the two buildings.
Once you have selected a floor that is right for you home, then ask the salesperson that has been assisting you about getting an estimate. Some questions to ask about the estimate are, Are the estimates free or is there a charge? If there is a charge, is it credited back if you utilize their services for the project. If you need a lot of square footage of flooring, say over 1000 sq. ft., ask the salesperson if there is a discount for the quantity of floor needed.
While at the flooring retail store, make sure that company offers a warranty for their installation, that they are insured, and you can always ask for a few references as well. Happy shopping!
