If you are looking at purchasing some new floors for your home, here are a few tips when selecting the floor laminate.

Thickness – the thickness of the floor is one of the most important decisions you will make. There are several different thicknesses ranging between 7mm to 14mm thick. Our best selling laminate flooring is 12mm thick. We have excellent prices for this thick floor that provides a solid thick feel and is more durable than your 8mm laminates.

Rating – Laminates are rated on a scale of AC1-AC5. AC1 through AC3 are ratings for residential applications and AC4-AC5 are acceptable for commercial applications. All of our floors here at The Floor Barn are AC3 and AC4.

Color – of course the color is a big factor in your choice. You want the floor laminate to reflect your personality and be a focal point of your home. There are all different colors to choose from with many of them being the handscraped wood look finish and some with a more smooth finish. Find one that complements your overall decor and lighting of your home. If you are looking to sell your home in the near future, do not select your floor by your taste, but more by something that would appeal to the masses. Not to dark, not too light and not too busy.

Price – of course for most people, the big factor is price. Retail prices of laminates can vary, but mostly range around $1.35 – $2.25 for 8mm thick and $1.85 – $3.50 for 12 mm floors. Our most popular 12mm floors are in the $1.85 – $2.19 a  square foot price range and as mentioned in the rating part of this blog post, they all are excellent quality and would be a good addition to any home.
