Many homeowners are choosing to remodel their bathroom into their own personal spa. If you plan on turning your shower into a relaxing steam shower, there several things to take into consideration prior to starting your renovation.

First off, you should check with your city to see if there are special permits required, every city is different and some do require permits for turning your shower into a steamer.

Then you will need to research and select the steam generator and pad that you would like to use in the project.

Then lastly, you will need to choose the tile that you would like to have installed in the remodeling project. There are several styles of tile to choose from: porcelain, ceramic, glass and natural stone.

One of the most important things to consider is making sure the tile you select has good traction for the shower floor. Water already can make the floor slippery and the steam just adds to it.

Natural stone is very comfortable to sit/lay down on, however in a steam room you will need to make sure to reseal the tile on a more regular basis then you would a porcelain or ceramic tile.
