Proper tile installation is critical when completing a flooring or remodeling  project. The last thing that you want to do is have “lippage” and stub your toe as you walk along you newly tiled floor. What is lippage? That is when tile installed next to another tile is not at the same exact height. And this can not only happen on the floor itself, but also on walls, like shower remodels or  or a kitchen backsplash. Although those case scenarios might not have an end result of an injured toe, but it definetly can be an eye sore. And lippage can not only happen when installing tile or natural stone, but also hardwood flooring.

Some tips for any of you DIY home improvement types include things like proper lighting. Make sure the project area has ample lighting, so that any lippage might be more visible and easily correctable while the thinset is still soft.

Make sure the surface area is properly prepared for the tile installation. For example, maybe you had to remove old tile before the new tile installation. If so, make sure all of the old thinset is completely removed so that you have smooth surface.
