How to install laminate flooring is a question from many DIY homeowner who purchase their laminate floors from us here at The Floor Barn. Laminate Flooring Installation is not for everyone, but if you consider yourself pretty handy with tools and can follow instructions well, it might be a project that you can tackle on your own instead of hiring a contractor.

The first step is making sure that you have all the necessary tools and materials to complete the laminate flooring installation. In addition to having the laminate, you will also want to make sure you have a quality underlayment. You will need to make sure the laminate acclimates in your home a minimum of 48 hrs prior to installation of the floors. For the tools, you will need spacers, hammer, pry bar, tapping block, tape measure, utility knife and a paring knife, hand saw and a coping saw. If you do not have all of those items, you can rent them from your local Home Improvement store.

Prior to installation, you will remove the existing flooring that is in the area that your will be doing the laminate flooring installation. Once that is done, you will need to make sure that the subfloor is level and that there is no dips. If your subfloor is plywood then you should not have to worry about leveling, however if your subfloor is concrete than there likely be areas where you will need leveling  Take a large level and drag it around the floor to see areas that dip below the rest. Then you will mix up some concrete patch, we use Maipei Planipatch, and take a trowel and level out those spaces. It will not take long for it to dry, once it is dry then you can start laying out the underlayment.
