Every homeowner would love to sell their home as quickly as possible, and thankfully there steps a homeowner can take to improve the odds of their home avoid sitting on the market for an extended period of time. As the old saying goes, first impressions are critical, and here are few things to consider to create the best possible first impression to potential home buyers.

1. Avoid Clutter: You need to make sure that any necessary items that do not add to the appeal of your home are packaged away. Whether in a shed, garage (last resort) or preferably offsite storage unit rental. That means items on your kitchen counters, toys in a child's room, excess decorations, etc…
You want the space to feel open, expansive and welcoming.

2. Depersonalize the home – The potential home buyer wants to be able to foresee themselves at the home, so in order to make it appeal to the broadest potential buyers, you need to depersonailze the home. Do not have a ton of family photos all over walls. Paint the walls of room that does not have paint color that has mass appeal.

3. Keep the house clean at all times – you never know when you will have your next showing, so have the property as clean as possible at all times. Sweep/vacuum/clean the floors, get rid of any lingering smells, do laundry on a regular basis, etc…

4. Don't ignore the exterior – If it is the summer time, plant a few flowers and make sure the lawn is maintained. If it it the Fall, make sure that the leaves are raked. Although the interior of the home will likely make the biggest impression on a potential home buyer, a neglected exterior might keep a home buyer from desiring to even step foot into the home.
