Potential Remodel Pitfalls
Whenever you take on a home remodeling project, whether it might be as small as having wood floors put in or as large as whole kitchen remodel, there always potential problems to be aware of that most people don't think of when planning for their project. Hopefully, the contractor that entrust will educate you on any potential outcomes prior to starting the project and if you are the DIY type, hopefully articles like this will assist you.
Some industry experts recommend setting aside a contingency plan fund. The amount they recommend is anywhere from 5-20 percent. That is not always feasible for everyone, but it is important to have some funds set aside.
One of the potential problems you can run into is Asbestos. The Floor Barn is floor stores Mansfield, TX and in our projects we do not see asbestos a lot in residential projects but we have run into it in commercial projects. And when we have run into it, it does add a significant amount to the project cost because it has to be professionally remediated and overseen by government specialists. It also can be a long delay in waiting for the government specialists to be able to be ready for the project.
Unreliable contractors is one of the biggest complaints we hear from our clients. Often before they came to us the home owner had used a contractor who was cheap and after spending a lot of money the project was not done correctly or the project took many months longer than expected or not done at all and the contractor ran off with their money. That is why it is important to do your research prior to hiring a contractor. Make sure the are licensed, do they have a place of business so you know where to find them if you need to, and make sure you get some references.
