At The Floor Barn, we do a lot of kitchen remodeling projects. In doing a lot of those projects, I find that often most of the time that the kitchen backsplash is an afterthought when it comes to the design. A lot of times more effort is put in the counter top selection, floor materials, cabinet resurfacing and appliances. If the homeowner does installs tile on the floors instead of something like hardwood or laminate, a lot of times the homeowner will just use a matching tile on the backsplash that they used on the floor.
A backsplash is way to make big statement with the littlest cost in the kitchen since it often is the smallest footprint of the entire project.
Every homeowner's budget is different so not everyone can afford elaborate designs like the following: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/3932601/list?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u159&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery0#
But you can use that as inspiration of ways to make a conversational piece of your new backsplash remodel, and they can be achieved on a reasonable budget.
