Here are some photos of recent bathroom remodel project in Mansfield that we completed. It turned out great, very classy look.

The tile we used on the floors in a diagonal pattern was the Eleganza Eco Tuscany collection, color Vanilla.

The tile we used on the walls in the shower and walls of bathroom and tub surround was Daltile Florentine, color Niciolla. We used a matching 2×4 brick joint mosaic for the shower pan. On the tub surround we topped off the with a natural stone chair rail to give it a finished look. In the shower, we used a Natural Blend colored polished marble tile from Interceramic as the decorative strip on the wall.

Another happy customer!

Remodeling your kitchen can be quite an expensive undertaking. The average minor kitchen remodel cost in Texas according to Remodeling magazine is $19,226 while a major kitchen remodel is $56,768. Not every homeowner can afford those kind of prices, but luckily there are more affordable options that can help makeover a kitchen. The easiest and most affordable in my opinion, an Arlington kitchen backsplash contractor, is the kitchen backsplash.

There are many different material options a homeowner can choose from when designing their new kitchen on their own or with an Arlington kitchen backsplash contractor. Here are a few options to consider:

Porcelain or Ceramic tile is probably the most popular material used in our Arlington kitchen backsplash contractor remodel projects. There are so many to choose from, you are sure to find one that meets your style.

Glass tile is also a growing popular option that can add some flash to your kitchen. Some people shy away from it because they are afraid it is a fad that will not be still like in a few years.

Natural Stone is a timeless look that I love as an Arlington kitchen backsplash contractor. It is very regal looking however there is maintenance with it since you have to re-seal it every year or so which is easy to do.

Marble or Granite is a nice look as well. Most people that use this method use it as an extension of the same material they have on their kitchen countertops. It most likely will be the most expensive option I have mentioned so far.

Laminate countertops have lost their appeal to most homeowners but still are an affordable option for others. With the increased technology in laminate production, there are some cool looking laminates available.

Those are the main backsplash materials used by an Arlington kitchen backsplash contractor. However, there are others such as copper, stainless steel, composite and more.  If you can think of it, it likely can be used as a potential kitchen backsplash.

In one of our recent blog posts we discussed the emergence of wood look tile flooring in popularity among homeowners. In this post, we going to dive deeper into the many different options and costs that a consumer can expect when shopping for wood like tile flooring at a retail floor store.

Wood look tile comes in both Porcelain and Ceramic tile. Ceramic tile in some instances might have a slightly lower price point, but not always true. Porcelain tile is a little more harder and most desirable for high traffic areas, while ceramic is still suitable for most areas of a residential home.

Wood look tile can come in many different sizes. The most popular lengths are 24″ and 36″. They can come in other lengths, some as short as 12″ and long as 48″. The longer they are the harder they are to install so you can expect to pay your installer a little more the longer the wood look tile plank, and often quite a bit more than your standard 12″x12″ tile. They can also come in many different widths, with some as narrow as 3″ and as wide as 6″, while most are 4″-5″ wide.

The aesthetic look of wood look tile can come in many different styles. Most have a nice rustic look with high detailed texture and some can have a very modern look, like a smooth Acacia. They come in many different colors, with the most popular being in the brown family, while modern colors like greys are growing in popularity.

Wood look tile can vary greatly in cost, just like real hardwood floors. You can expect to pay anywhere from $2.50 square foot to $7 square foot. A lot of the cost depends on the detail of the wood and the size.

If you live in the Dallas / Fort Worth metro area and are looking for a good selection of discount prices on wood look tile, feel free to stop in one of our retail showrooms in Arlington and Burleson, TX.

wood tile flooring

Wood tile flooring is has become extremely popular among homeowners recently. Of course, real solid or engineered hardwood floors are more desirable for homeowners, but they are not practical for everyone or for certains spaces of a home.

Wood look tile is most widely used in wet areas of home, like kitchens, bathrooms, entry ways and laundry rooms. Wood tile flooring is very durable and less susceptible to water damage in these areas than real hardwood flooring. It is also popular for homeowners that have large pets or young kids where they have concern that real wood flooring get damaged easily and that wood tile flooring would hold up much better to that type of foot traffic.

The wood tile flooring can be made in both ceramic and porcelain tile. Although both are very durable and moisture resistant in comparison to hardwoods, porcelain tile is a little stronger than ceramic.

Pricing on wood tile flooring can vary greatly. There all different kinds of styles of wood tile and the pricing is largely based on the style of the wood tile. Some wood like tile floors are more detailed than others and some have more texture than others. There are many different sizes that the wood look tile flooring comes in as well. So there are many factors that play into the materials price, but you can expect to pay almost as much as real hardwood floors (material only) and often can expect to pay more for the installation since installation of plank tile is more tedious work than glue down installation of hardwoods.

So if you are looking at purchasing new floors and are concerned that your family’s lifestyle might lead to scratches, stains or water damage to your wood floors, look into an excellent alternative in wood tile flooring that gives you the wood look with durability.

Come visit one of our locations at The Floor Barn to view our selection of wood tile flooring and take advantage of our discount prices on brand name floors!

Are you in the need of new tile and you live in DFW metroplex? Luck for you, there are plenty of options for tile flooring Arlington TX. The Dallas and Fort Worth area is home to many major Tile manufacturers like Daltile, Marazzi, Emser and Interceramic so the consumer will have many options to choose from.

All 4 of those large tile manufacturers have a showroom in Fort Worth and in Dallas that is open to the public. The public can not purchase tile at the showrooms, but the have their full tile lines there to view for the tile flooring Arlington tx consumer to view. This is beneficial because often the tile retailer, like The Floor Barn, has limited space so they only display a portion of the tile lines from the manufacturers. Most of those the are tiles that have the most mass appeal, so if you are looking for a tile flooring Arlington TX that is unique, being able to go to the showroom of the manufacturer is of great help in your decision if it is the right tile floor for your home.

Shopping for tile flooring Arlington Tx is also good for finding a product from the smaller manufacturers as well. With DFW being such a big metroplex, tile makers such as Eleganza, Arizona, Unicorn and more have showrooms here as well.

So if you looking for tile flooring and live in the DFW area, please visit one of our showrooms located in Burleson and Arlington and we can assist you in finding the right tile for you.

Arlington Tile Installer

If you have a home improvement project that you are about to take on and you are not the DIY type, one of the most important decisions you make will be who you hire to be your contractor. Here some things to consider before you hire an Arlington tile installer.

Make sure to ask your tile installer if they are licensed and insured. Not all states require a contractor to be licensed, and that would be the case here in Texas for your Arlington tile installer. But it is important that they are insured in the event they do something to damage your home. Stay away from your Craigslist installers! If you get lucky and find one that knows what he is doing and saves you a few dollars depending on the size of your project, or he could cost you thousands and leave your home in total disrepair.

Make sure if the contractor is general handyman or if they specialize in the type of project you are wanting to hire for. An Arlington Tile Installer specialist typically is going to be more skilled and efficient than someone that is “jack of all trades”.

Ask the Arlington tile installer if they work in the area that you reside and if they are available to start and complete the project within your desired timeline. If they do not meet your requirements, keep looking for one that can.

To most homeowners, the most important thing they look at is what the Arlington tile installer rates are. Of course that should be of some importance, but not the main focus. Take into consideration their skill level and ask to view photos of their work and for referrals of their past clients. As we mentioned, in addition to cost, do they have insurance, do they have a physical place of business so you know where to find them if you have an issue, how long they have in business is also important.

Of course there are many different questions you can ask to make the right selection since each project is unique, but the above questions are a must to ask of your Arlington tile installer before you hire one.

Are Travertine Tile stone floors right for you? That is the question you should be asking your self before you go shopping for travertine tile. Travertine flooring is an elegant and timeless look that can last a lifetime if cared for properly, the only issue is most people are not aware of the necessary maintenance involved in caring for your natural stone floors. Here are a few benefits (Pros) and Cons that you should consider before purchasing travertine tile.

A few benefits that most people don’t think about when purchasing travertine tile is that unlike carpet, being a hard surface will not trap in allergens and is easier to clean which benefits people with allergies.

If you live in Texas as I do, they also are naturally cool to the touch, which is great for about 8 months of the year. But during the cold months, the opposite is the case, unless of course your budget allows for radiant heating being installed under your travertine tile.

As mentioned in the beginning of this post, natural stone travertine tile is very durable and has an ageless look that will outlast other product trends. The look is complementary to traditional house design as well as modern design. However, that can come at a cost. Most quality travertine tile products can be double the cost of the average porcelain or ceramic tile. It also takes more maintenance than your standard porcelain tile. Being a natural and porous material, you would need to seal and reseal your tile on an annual or a bi-annual basis, which could be a deal breaker for most homeowners.

So before you purchase your travertine, do your research and weigh the pros and cons to make an informed decision before purchasing travertine tile, or any flooring material for that matter.

Kitchen Backsplash Remodel

As with any home design aspect, kitchen backsplash remodeling trends and materials evolve as technology and homeowners tastes change with time. However, as a kitchen backsplash professional, I feel that the changes are small and that most American homeowners are content with a traditional style material.

This article from Houzz will contradict my opinion on the kitchen backsplash industry as it predicts it heading towards a more seamless backsplash: http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/29887594?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u590&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery10. I love their website, however I feel that the target audience they are capturing in this article is small group of trendy homeowners with big budgets. This is why I disagree with that article:

1.Seamless products shown in the article such as glass and marble are extremely expensive. A marble backsplash could cost you between $60-$100 sq.ft. Most of the popular tile in our showrooms utilized for a kitchen backsplash can range from $4 – $30 a sq.ft. .

2. When people remodel their homes, most homeowners opt to go with a style that is not only appeasing to them but also to the mass market in the event the have to sell their home in the near future. Although I like a lot of looks presented in this article, a lot of it is very modern which does not appeal to the largest segment of home buyers. Many feel that look is trendy and will be outdated much quicker than a more traditional looking kitchen backsplash.

3. Repairs – what happens if small portion of your large, seamless backsplash is damaged. Do you have to replace the whole kitchen backsplash? Odds are it will not be an easy fix like it would be replacing a single damaged 4″ x 4″ travertine tile.

There are kitchen designs that come and go and some that have staying power, I don’t see a seamless backsplash as a trend that will be around long or catch on to the masses.

The Future of Backsplashes
Ask a kitchen designer about the future of backsplashes, and the response will be “seamless.” Seamless materials, that is. High-maintenance surfaces are on their way out, being replaced by continuous, easy-to-clean finishes without joints, grout lines or any other places where grease and grime can collect. And the benefits aren’t just janitorial. When paired with hidden outlets, these new uninterrupted surfaces offer a wealth of design possibilit…

laminate and hardwood flooring

There are all kinds of different flooring material options on the market and sometimes it can be overwhelming for a homeowner that is purchasing flooring for the first time for their home. There are Pros and Cons for each different flooring product and for this blog post we will focus on Laminate and Hardwood Flooring, specifically engineered wood floors.

Laminate and Hardwood flooring differ in a few ways one is the top layer that we see and walk on everyday. The top layer for engineered hardwood floor, is actual a finished hardwood layer. It is made of a specific wood species such as Birch, Oak, Maple or Hickory and then is coated with a protective layer coating of aluminum oxide typically. Laminated floors have the protective top layer and just beneath that layer is the photographic graphic that mimics real hardwood.

Then the core can also vary between laminate and hardwood flooring. A laminate floor will have an HDF or High Density Fiberboard core which is compressed materials that provides an affordable and stable base for the laminate top layer. This usually includes a click and lock, uniclick installation method that requires a floating installation method. For most of your engineered wood floors, they are comprised of layers of wood, but they also are seeing more manufacturers utilize an HDF core as well.

The Pros and Cons of laminate and hardwood flooring are as such. Laminate pros are that it can be more affordable, both for the product and for paid installation labor, plus it is more durable or has a higher hardness rating than most of your domestic engineered wood floors. The Con is that the technology allows the products to improve greatly over short period of time and in a short period of time the floor might feel outdated. Pros for Engineered Hardwood are that it is an ageless or timeless look that most realtors agree adds real value to your home while most other flooring products do not. The cons are that as previously mentioned, it is a little more expensive.

So hopefully this short blog post helped you out a little on your search of laminate and hardwood flooring. Find out which of the Pros and Cons mean most to you and visit your local flooring retailer to assist you in your search.
